A typical session
- Warm Up: Engage in meaningful number sense routines — these are the "Best First Taste of Math."
- Focus: Self-assessment and goal setting based on objectives.
- Targeted Review and Practice: Explore grade level content through games, tasks, and hands-on activities. Where we may identify unfinished learning, pre-teach concepts, or extend — and offer a choice of activities or games.
- Check: for understanding.
- Student Reflection.
Oh, and snacks and drinks will ALWAYS be included (and my puppy — can't forget her!)
Personalizing your child's program
- An initial student interview will take place to gain an understanding of learning styles and preferences. This will be used to personalize the sessions to your child's needs.
- Using a pre-assessment and through communicating with your child's teacher (if possible), I will curate a specific plan for your child that focuses on major mathematical work and is aligned with their needs. This will be shared along the way.
- I will work with students individually, in pairs, and in small groups, with engaging instructional strategies.
- Once we target a specific, curated group of skills for your child, I will assess their understanding again.
- Once the student is secure, we will move to another set of skills that are "heavy hitters" — major work of the grade.
